Born in 1926 in Florence, conceptual artist, performer and composer, he was one of the leading exponents of Group 70 and leader of the international movement Fluxus, to which the artist joined, participating in 1962, at the Fluxus internationale Festspiele neuester Musik in Wiesbaden.
In 1972 he participated in Documenta 5 in Kassel, bringing collages, paintings and installations and later participating in several editions of the Venice Biennale (1972, 1976, 1978). During his concert career he has promoted his performances in Europe (Berlin, Paris, Vienna, London, Milan, Rome) and in the United States in New York. In 2015, in Milan, the Clivio Gallery dedicated to the artist the exhibition “Black and White”. In 2017 in Florence and Prato, the exhibition “PentaChiari” is presented, five art galleries simultaneously celebrate the work of Giuseppe Chiari, curated by Bruno Corà.
